Working of Single Lines: Train Staff & Ticket

This video describes the origin and development of the Train Staff and Ticket system as a means of controlling occupation of single line sections of line. It also sets out the reasons for the resurgence of this system from the late 20th century onward.

There are separate videos for Tyer's Key Token and Tyer's Tablet operation, filmed at the Kent & East Sussex Railway.

Outdoor filming for this video was also carried out at Rolvenden and Tenterden Town by kind permission of the Kent & East Sussex Railway although they don't use this method of signalling.
