Key Chronology

1848	Leeds and Thirsk Railway opened between Weeton and Thirsk establishing the south to north line through Starbeck. Starbeck initially acted as the station for Harrogate being variously called Harrogate for Knaresborough, Harrogate High and High Harrogate.
1851	York and North Midland Railway opened from their temporary terminus, through Knaresborough to a north facing junction south of Starbeck station. Leeds and Thirsk Railway renamed Leeds Northern Railway.
1854	Both railways become part of the newly created North Eastern Railway.
1857	Location name settled as Starbeck.
1862	Dragon Loop opened providing direct link from Starbeck to Harrogate.
1951	Pannal Junction to Starbeck South Junction section of Leeds and Thirsk line closed.
1969	Starbeck North Junction to Melmerby section of Leeds and Thirsk line closed.
